Before you pack your bag ... prepare your heart

Why do you want to go? Compassion, guilt, love of other cultures, a spirit of adventure ... maybe some of these are good secondary reasons. But if the primary reason isn't to reach the lost world for Christ and proclaim the love of Jesus, then spend some time searching your soul.

How deep is your relationship with Christ? Your spiritual growth is one of the most vital aspects of your mission. You can't help people know Jesus more intimately than you know Him yourself. You can't lead people to faith in Christ if you can't explain it.

Dig into the Word and dig deep! Don't quit in your pursuit of holiness! Maturity isn't instantaneous.

"If you truly want to push forward with intimacy with God, you will invariably have to overcome some degree of boredom. It is not realistic to expect that you can fill your mind with endless diversion, static and noise for twenty or thirty years and then suddenly stop and pray for hours in rapturous delight" -Gary Thomas.

When things seem dull you may feel the impulse to spice it up with action, but the action may have more to do with staving off your boredom than serving God. God knows the difference. Let Him direct your thoughts and be the One to lead you in the direction of global service ... for the right reason - His!

FMWM Mobilization exists to connect Free Methodists to a wide variety of global opportunities. Whether your church is thinking of sending a team, you feel led to spend some time serving abroad, or you are sensing a call from God into a missionary career, we can work with you.

Common types of ministry for all of our venues of service include evangelism, leadership development, outreach, teaching, training, medical, compassion, children's ministries, construction, church planting/development, discipleship, microenterprise, sports outreach, English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction, administration, accounting, and ministries of support/encouragement. Several opportunities for service exist in many different places, so chances are, we can plug you in.

As part of Mobilization, VISA (Volunteers In Service Abroad) Ministries is the official Free Methodist connection for all types of short-term missions (two weeks to two years) and cross-cultural education. With our experience and expertise, VISA is what separates those who do meaningful ministry with impact and those who aimlessly wander - lacking defined, purposeful ministry and accountability.
